Mothers Against Hunger in Africa (MAHA) held its long-awaited Inaugural Meeting in March 2026, timed deliberately to coincide with International Women's Day — a globally resonant occasion that underscores the organisation's conviction that gender equality is not a concession to women, but a prerequisite for human progress.

The meeting brought together founding members, prospective partners, policymakers, nutritionists, food systems experts, grassroots women leaders, and development allies from across the African continent for a structured, solutions-oriented dialogue on how gender can and must be placed at the centre of Africa's food security agenda.

Speaking at the High-Level Opening Plenary, MAHA's founding leadership declared: "Africa's mothers have long borne the weight of hunger in silence. MAHA gives voice to their struggle, honours their resilience, and channels their wisdom into structured, sustained action for change."

The meeting resulted in the adoption of MAHA's founding documents — including its Constitution, Strategic Framework 2026–2030, and Membership Charter — as well as the MAHA Inaugural Communiqué, a declaration of shared commitment to gender-responsive hunger solutions across the continent. The Continental Steering Committee was formally constituted, marking the beginning of MAHA's operational life as a recognised continental organisation.

MAHA's Inaugural Meeting was described by participants as both a historic milestone and a clarion call. The continent beckons. The time is now.
